Theatre director

Katarzyna Minkowska

theatre director and stage designer, born in 1992. One of the leading representatives of the young generation of directors, nominated for the Polityka’s Passport Award in the Theatre category for both 2024 and 2025. She made her directorial debut in 2020 with the production Stream at TR Warszawa, created as part of the Debiut TR competition. Katarzyna Minkowska graduated in directing from the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw and in stage design from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Her style is characterised by a bold, uncompromising stage language, psychological precision, and an astute diagnosis of contemporary issues, particularly the condition of the e-generation. She is interested in art positioned at the intersection of realism and psychotherapy, focusing on themes of working through trauma, loss, and grief. At the centre of her work stands the human being, the family, and also the wider community of artists. Katarzyna Minkowska successfully stages both classical literature (The Stranger at Teatr Polski in Poznań) and more contemporary works (Scenes from a Marriage at the National Stary Theatre). She has also directed a production dedicated to younger audiences (Can’t See the Wood for the Trees, a co-production of Nowy Teatr in Warsaw and Teatr Żeromskiego in Kielce). In addition to theatre productions, in 2025 she also directed the widely discussed and spectacular farewell concert of rapper Quebonafide at the National Stadium in Warsaw. She has worked at Nowy Teatr in Warsaw, Teatr Dramatyczny, TR Warszawa, the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn, Teatr Polski in the Underground in Wrocław, the Wilam Horzyca Theatre in Toruń, Teatr Polski in Poznań, and the Helena Modrzejewska National Stary Theatre in Kraków.
